ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville Athletics Director Janet Cone has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Leadership Council by the NCAA. Her appointment on the prestigious committee begins on Sept. 1 and will run through April 30, 2012.

The NCAA Division I Leadership Council assists the NCAA Board of Directors in leading Division I and charting its course. The Council identifies strategic issues that can impact Division I and intercollegiate athletics as a whole. The Council helps set the Division I legislative agenda and identifies issues that require legislative solutions. In addition, it assists the Board of Directors with background information, comments and advice on non-legislative manners and selective proposals. It also receives reports from various NCAA and Division I committees.

“I am truly honored to be selected to the NCAA Division Leadership Council,” stated Cone.

“This is a great committee to be a part of as it helps set the agenda for Division I athletics.

Cone is finishing up her fourth year at UNC Asheville. Last fall, Cone was named as the Division I-AAA Athletics Director the Year by National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators.
