ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville women’s basketball coach Betsy Blose has announced the signing of Junior College All-American Dana Wagner to a National Letter-of-Intent on Friday.
Wagner is a 5-7 shooting guard who played at Madison Area Technical College in Madison, Wisconsin. She enjoyed a spectacular season this past year, leading her team in scoring (17.6), three-point field goal percentage (36%), free throws made (116) and free throw percentage (85.3%). Wagner helped lead MATC to a conference and regional championship plus a berth in the NJCAA Division III title game. She earned All-Conference, All-State, All-Region and first team All-American honors following the 2008-09 season.
Wagner completed her career as the school’s second all-time leading scorer with 1,044 points. She broke a school mark for career free throw percentage at 83.2 percent and was seventh all-time in career steals with 157.
“We are very excited about signing an experienced guard like Dana Wagner,” stated Blose. “Her two years of junior college ball will enable her to impact our program immediately. She is an exceptional player who shoots the three quite well and is a gifted ball-handler as well as a defender. Dana is passionate about the game and her competitiveness on the court and in the classroom makes her a perfect fit for UNC Asheville.”
