ASHEVILLE, N.C. - South Florida of the Big East Conference remained unbeaten on the season with a 77-29 victory over short-handed UNC Asheville Wednesday night at Kimmel Arena.


The Bulls (5-0) had four players in double figures with Courtney Williams and Andrea Smith leading the visitors with 16 points each. Andrell Smith added 13 points.


Asheville was led by Kelli Riles with seven points and a game-high 17 rebounds. Paige Love added seven points for the Bulldogs (1-5). The home team was without several key players due to injuries.


South Florida's relentless pressure defense forced 37 Asheville turnovers as the Bulls scored 43 points off those turnovers.


The Bulldogs were hanging in the game as they trailed 25-14 with six left in the first half before USF ended the half on 20-2 run to lead 45-16 at halftime. Asheville had 21 turnovers in the first half with eight coming in the final five minutes. Smith had 10 points in the first half for the Bulls. Riles pulled down 12 rebounds in the opening half.


In the second half, the Bulldogs went ice cold from the field as they shot just .182. Asheville was 4-of-22 in the second stanza.


The home team battled the taller Bulls on the boards and held an advantage for most of the game before USF finished with a 41-37 edge.


UNC Asheville stays home on Saturday as the Bulldogs open Big South Conference play against Campbell at Kimmel Arena starting at 2 p.m. South Florida hosts North Florida Saturday at 1 p.m.
