Establishing athletic scholarship endowments to underwrite the costs of tuition, room, board, books, fees, and other academic support services for all 14 sports at UNC Asheville is our "Game Plan for Future Success" and a top priority for our athletics department. Scholarship expenses are not options and they continue to rise on an annual basis.
UNC Asheville has a total of 69 athletic scholarships covering 14 intercollegiate athletic teams and over 174 student-athletes. This is far below the 118 full scholarships we are allowed to offer student-athletes. Endowments will become a key source of funding for our athletic program to insure that we can continue to offer educational opportunities to highly motivated and skilled student-athletes.
Opportunities exist to establish a permanently named endowment that will perpetually benefit the student-athletes at UNC Asheville. An endowment is a donation whose invested interest generates the funding for athletic scholarships. There are many ways a donor may to choose to make a gift: cash donations, wills, trusts, insurance policies, real estate, or other opportunities. Gifts can be made as a one-time contribution or may be made over a five-year pledge period.
Athletic Scholarship Endowments can be named in honor or memory of an individual with an initial gift or pledge of $25,000. Payment terms are flexible. Gifts of any amount are welcome for new or currently established endowments.
Currently, we have nine (9) Athletic Scholarship Endowments that provide financial assistance to UNC Asheville student-athletes. These include:

Eddie Biedenbach Athletic Scholarship
- Men's or Women's Basketball
Samuel J. Millar Athletic Scholarship
- Men's or Women's Soccer
Willie and Carlene Locke Athletic Scholarship
- Men's or Women's Track
Charlie and Sarah Justice Athletic Scholarship
- Men's or Women's Basketball
Cecil C. and Lois H. Hutchins Athletic Scholarship
- Male or Female Student-athlete
Ralph F. Hooker Athletic Scholarship
- Baseball
Arthur P. Foley/Foley Family Athletic Scholarship
- Women's Basketball
