ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Senior cross country Emma Bussard is this week's winner of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Athlete of the Week at UNC Asheville.

Each week the school selects a BCBSNC Athlete of the Week upon their performance from the previous week's action. This is the second time this year that Bussard has been selected.

Bussard finished in 21st-place on Saturday at the Pre-National Meet at the University of Louisville. More than 240 runners competed on Sunday from all over the country and only a few finished in front of Emma

Her time was a personal best of 21:52.8. That’s nearly a 90-second improvement for her in a 6,000-meter course. Bussard's time lands her as the third best all-time in the Bulldog history books over the distance.

She helped lead UNC Asheville to an 18th-place finish at the meet.

Bussard and the Bulldogs begin training for the Big South Conference Championship meet on Oct. 27th at Winthrop.
