Bulldog Swimming Performs Well at Highlander Invitational

RADFORD, Va. - The UNC Asheville women's swimming team enjoyed a solid session on the final day of the Highlander Invitational.

 

The Bulldogs finished the meet in fifth place with 350 points. Asheville finished fifth out of six teams and beat out North Carolina A&T in the process.  

 

"Our team learned a lot this weekend," stated Asheville coach Elizabeth Lykins. "I'm proud of our performances and am happy with the successes this young team is having."

 

The night started with Galen Broido's 1,650 Freestyle. She earned sixth- place points with her time of 17:48.79, a lifetime best by 38 seconds. Less than 20 minutes later, she placed sixth again in the 200 Backstroke with another lifetime best of 2:09.59.

 

In the 200 Breaststroke, freshman Alessandra Troncoso continued her fantastic freshman season. She finished first place in the event with a lifetime best of 2:23.82. Chole Carr came in fourth at 2:29.02.

 

Liz Acker earned valuable 11th place points in the 200 Butterfly with a lifetime best of 2:22.66.

 

The final event of the day was 400 Freestyle Relay. Asheville's team of Galen Broido, Kristen Lawson, Alessandra Troncoso and Ashley Ireland finished in ninth place in the event. Ireland split the fastest relay split in UNC Asheville history of 55.95.
