ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's basketball team hopes to get its first victory of the season when the Bulldogs host Montreat College at Kimmel Arena Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

Tuesday's game will be video-streamed and can be seen under the multimedia tag at www.uncabulldogs.com.

Asheville (0-3) fell at Eastern Kentucky on Saturday, 67-47. EKU built a big first-half lead before the Bulldogs settled down and outscored the Colonels in the second half.

"After our performance at EKU, the girls are ready to get back on the court again and have an opportunity to play Asheville basketball against a very well-coached and hard-working Montreat team," stated first-year coach Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick. "We know we have more to give as a unit, and the kids were disappointed in our effort on the road. We had a champion's response in practice last night and made great strides individually and collectively. We were executing better on both ends of the floor and really taking ownership of who we want to be as a basketball team this year."

The Cavaliers are 6-1 on the season and played Asheville close last year. The Bulldogs held off Montreat, 73-64 at Kimmel Arena a year ago.

Sophomore guard Shonese Jones leads Asheville in scoring with a 13.3 per game average. Kelli Riles tops the Bulldogs in rebounding with an 11.3 mark.

Montreat defeated Averett on Saturday, 71-66. The Cavaliers are led by sophomore forward Hannah Kolbeck with an 11.5 scoring average. Alexandria Gellman averages 10.7 points per game with a 7.0 rebounding average. Montreat is averaging 90.5 points per game as a team.

BULLDOG NOTES

UNC Asheville is 6-0 all-time against Montreat College

Kelli Riles grabbed 20 rebounds against Wofford last Thursday. It marked the fifth time in her career that she had collected at least 20 rebounds in a game.

Shonese Jones has led Asheville in scoring in all three games for the Bulldogs this season.

The Bulldogs have won at least a half in each of their three games. Asheville led at intermission of the Western Carolina and Wofford games. They outscored Eastern Kentucky in the second half of Saturday's contest.

Asheville plays at ACC power UNC Chapel Hill on Sunday with a new start time at 2 p.m.

The Bulldogs are at Kimmel Arena twice next week with two games. Asheville welcomes South Florida to Kimmel Arena on Wednesday, Nov. 28 and then opens Big South Conference play vs. Campbell on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m.
