ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's and women's indoor track and field teams are in action this weekend when the Bulldog teams compete in the Niswonger Invitational at East Tennessee State.

 

The two-day meet begins Friday morning at 10 a.m., with the prelims of the women's 60m hurdles, the women's triple jump finals and the women's weight throw finals. Opening day collegiate events end following the men's and women's 5K run at 7 p.m., before the meet picks back up on Saturday morning at 8 a.m. with another session of the men's and women's 5K. The final events of the meet are the men's and women's 4x400m relay, which being at 6:30 p.m.

 

More than 800 student-athletes from over 60 collegiate teams will be competing in the meet. Those teams include Anderson College, Appalachian State, Austin Peay, Benedict College, Bryan College, Chattanooga, Emory, Gardner-Webb, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Kennesaw State, King College, Lee University, Lipscomb, Mars Hill, MTSU, Milligan, Montreat, Murray State, Roanoke College, Southern University at New Orleans, Tennessee Tech, Tennessee Wesleyan, Tusculum, UNC Asheville, USC Upstate, Western Carolina and Wofford.

 

"This is a great meet for us to return to after the Christmas break," stated Asheville coach Jesse Norman. "They'll be a lot of good teams and competitions competing this weekend.

 

"We're excited to see how our freshmen perform in such a big meet," added Norman. "And we'll see how our returners compete against some strong competition. This meet will be an excellent gauge to see where we're at this point of the season."

 

UNC Asheville opened in the indoor season last month at Appalachian State. Milan Ristic set a school record in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 7.21 as he finished first in the event. Meredith Foster took home first in the high jump with a leap of 1.67 meters. It was the second highest jump in school history.

 

Live results will be available throughout the meet at TimingInc.com. Tickets can be purchased at the gate upon entry. Prices are $10 for both days and $5 for a single day.
