SPARTANBURG, S.C. – A two-out double by third baseman Robert McIntosh in the top of the fourth scored two runs and gave the Bulldogs a two-run advantage, as the UNC Asheville baseball team eventually earned a 7-4 victory over Georgetown on Saturday afternoon.

The game was called in the bottom of the sixth due to inclement weather in the Spartanburg, S.C., area.

“We did a good job of taking advantage of opportunities today,” said Asheville head coach Tom Smith. “Robert McIntosh has started this season on a tear, and Ian Graham had a big two-out RBI single. We had some timely knocks to get it done.”

McIntosh was 2-for-4 at the plate, with two runs batted in and two runs scored. Leftfielder Tommy Houmard and centerfielder Phillip Treadway each scored two runs, as the Bulldogs scored seven runs on six hits.

Elliot Criss got the start and picked up his first win of the season. He allowed four runs (two earned) on three hits, with three walks and three strikeouts in five innings of work.

“There were a couple of innings that almost got away from Elliot (Criss), but he made some big pitches to get out of them,” added Smith.

Georgetown first baseman Steve Anderson collected two RBI, going 1-for-3 at the plate. Starter Matt Hollenback tossed five innings for the Hoyas, giving up six runs (three earned) on four hits, striking out five and walking four.

The Bulldogs will finish out the USC Upstate/Wofford Invitational tomorrow, weather permitting, against co-host Wofford at 4 p.m.
