ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Thanks in large part to generous contributions from fans in attendance and Beverly-Hanks & Associates the UNC Asheville baseball team raised $10,000 for the VS-Cancer Foundation and Mission Children’s Hospital on Wednesday evening, as apart of the Bulldogs’ game at McCormick Fielder against mountain rival Western Carolina.

Neal Hanks, president of Beverly-Hanks, had his head shaved during the contest to show support for cancer research, followed by the entire Asheville baseball team, who had their heads shaved after the game.

“It was one of the most successful nights we’ve ever had,” said Chase Jones, founder of VS-Cancer. “I was just proud to be there.”

Carter, a six-year-old cancer patient, threw out the first pitch and then stuck around after the contest to help with the head shaving festivities. Carter also accepted the donation check on behalf of the Mission Foundation for Childhood Cancer from Hanks before the game.

The Bulldogs picked up a 15-0 victory over the Catamounts, but the real winners were the fans who donated to the cause.
