CHARLESTON, S.C. – On day two of the 2013 College of Charleston Volleyball Classic the Bulldogs of UNC Asheville earned a 3-0 victory over Alabama A&M in their first match of the day before falling to host CofC 3-0 in their last match of the tournament on Saturday afternoon at TD Arena.

With the split the Bulldogs move to 8-6 on the season, as they prepare for Big South Conference play beginning next Friday, Sept. 27, against Gardner-Webb at Justice Center beginning at 7 p.m.

In the first match of the day senior Anna Moore exploded for a season-high 17 kills against Alabama A&M, finishing one kill shy of tying her career-best. Christine Lakatos tallied nine kills for the Bulldogs with Meredith Foster chipping in eight.

Setter Katie Davis posted 39 assists for the Blue & White, who took the match 25-13, 25-12, 25-19 to improve to 8-5 on the season.

As a team Asheville hit for a .402 clip against the Bulldogs of Alabama A&M, with Moore and Foster both hitting .667 in the match.

Alabama A&M’s Maria Ramos recorded nine kills to lead all Bulldogs in the contest. Ashley Forman recorded 23 assists for A&M, with Rebecca Cortez tallying 13 digs on defense.

Against the host Cougars the Bulldogs fell 28-26, 25-15, 25-19 to drop their second match of the tournament. Lakatos led the way for the Blue & White with 11 kills in the match, while Foster and Moore were held to five kills each by the Charleston defense.

CofC tallied 61 digs and 10.0 blocks as a team, stymieing the Asheville attack. The Cougars’ Cara Howley tallied a match-high 13 kills with teammate Darcy Dorton chipping in 11. Kallie McKown (22) and Taeler Davis (16) combined for 38 assists while splitting time at setter, with McKown earning 12 digs as well.
