BOONE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women’s cross country team finished in second place, while the men’s squad took third at the Mountaineer Open Friday evening at State Farm Fields.
The Bulldog women’s squad finished with 74 points and came in second behind Virginia Tech. Senior Melanie Kulesz took eighth place to lead the Asheville effort as she posted a time of 18:42.72 on the 5K course.
The men’s team had 93 points and finished behind Virginia Tech and King College. Freshman Brent Schouler took 12th place and was the Bulldogs top runner for the second time this year. He had a time of 26:05.97 over the 8K course.
Erin Dalton ran a strong race for the Asheville women’s team as she came in 14th place at 19:09.92. Sarah Heisner was 15th at 19:10.28. Kylie Smith finished in 17th (19:20.65), while Adrian Etheridge took 20th (19:26). Kelsie Rubino finished 24th (19:45).
On the men’s side, Kevin Paradise came in 14th place with a time of 26:10.35. Patrick Osborne took 19th at a time of 26:31.22. Andy Thornburg came in 22nd (27:22.20) and Nathan Kirse in 30th (27:37.03).
