ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team remained perfect at home this year with a 3-0 Big South Conference victory over Campbell Saturday afternoon at Justice Center. The Bulldogs won the match 25-23, 25-19, 25-10.

Campbell was led by Lindsey Coats with 10 kills. Katelyn Layden contributed eight kills and 14 digs. Mary Crema had two service aces and 12 digs.

“I’m really pleased with the win today,” commented Bulldog coach Frederico Santos. “We had a great win last night against High Point but came out today and played well. I thought we got better as the match went on and did a great job in the second and third sets.

“Once again our defense was very good as we dug a lot of balls out,” added Santos. “Ourblocking was especially good in the second and third sets.”

The first set went back and forth with 13 ties and nine lead changes. Asheville forged to an 18-14 lead only to see Coats bring the Camels back and close to 21-20 with three kills. The teams kept siding out before a kill from Lakatos gave Asheville the first set at 25-23.

In the second set, the Bulldogs led 14-13 before Fischer posted three kills in a 5-0 run to push the home team’s lead to 19-13. Campbell rallied to cut the lead to 20-16 but Moore had two kills and a service ace to lead a 5-1 run to end the set as Asheville won 25-19 and went into intermission in front, 2-0.

The Bulldogs quickly took charge in the third set. Asheville led 10-6 and scored six straight points to lead 16-6. The visitors had a tough set with 10 attack errors as the Bulldogs picked up their third win in the last four matches.

Asheville hit .355 (14-3-31) in the final set and got kills from six different players.

UNC Asheville hits the road for a key Big South Conference battle at Presbyterian College on Friday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. Campbell travels to Radford this Friday for a 7 p.m. league battle.
