ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men’s basketball team plays its final game before the holidays on Friday night when the Bulldogs host Virginia Intermont at Kimmel Arena starting at 7 p.m.

Friday’s game will be broadcast locally on WWNC Radio (570-AM) with the pre-game show starting at 6:30 p.m. Fans can also watch the game for free on the Big South Digital Network under the multimedia tag at uncabulldogs.com.

Asheville (3-7) looks for its third straight win on Friday after winning at USC Upstate on Sunday, 73-63. Freshman guard Andrew Rowsey scored 19 points, while fellow rookie guard David Robertson added a career-high 18 points for the Bulldogs. Jaron Lane contributed 14 points, including a 12-for-12 performance from the free throw line.

“Sunday was a great win for our guys,” explained first-year coach Nick McDevitt. “We were focused and played hard for 40 minutes to beat a very good team on the road. We’ll need to keep playing like that throughout the year.”

The Bulldogs host the Cobras (3-10) for just the second time ever. Asheville downed Virginia Intermont 116-58 in the 2010-11 season at Justice Center. The Cobras played at Big South foe Longwood on Tuesday before falling, 80-61.

“Virginia Intermont is much improved from when we played them a few years ago,” commented McDevitt. “They gave Longwood a good game on Tuesday, and we expect a great effort from them Friday night.”

Rowsey continues to lead the Bulldogs in scoring and has a 15.1 average. Lane has scored in double figures in six consecutive games and is averaging 12.7 points per game. Senior center D.J. Cunningham has recovered from a knee injury to play the past two contests. He has an 11.4 scoring average and tops the club in rebounding with an 8.3 mark.

Senior forward Joshua Hart leads the VI attack as he’s averaging 25 points per game. He scored 19 points at Longwood Tuesday night.
