CLEMSON, S.C. – The UNC Asheville men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams head to Clemson on Saturday for their first meet on 2014 at the Orange and Purple Classic.
The meet gets underway with the men's and women's long jump and women's weight throw at 11 a.m., followed by the start of running events at 1 p.m. Teams expected to compete in the event are Anderson, Clemson East Tennessee State, Georgia Tech, UNC Asheville, SC State and Virginia. Live results are available at TimingInc.com.
“This is a good meet for both teams to start out 2014,” stated Asheville coach Jesse Norman. “We had some good results in the first two meets on the indoor season and this will be a test for us against some very good competition on Saturday at Clemson. I’m anxious to see what kind of shape we’re after the holidays.”
Asheville has not competed since the JDL College Kickoff at Wake Forest on Dec. 8. The big news in that meet was in the throws competition. Both Kurt Hibert and Corey McClintock set school records in the weight throw that day.
Hibert set a school record in the weight throw and finished in third place with a throw of 17.59 meters.
McClintock also set a school record as her throw of 16.87 meters also placed her in third place.
Other highlights on the day included a fifth-place finish by Skyler Winchester in the 3,000 meters as he posted a time of 8:55.26.
