MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill Athletic Department announced Thursday night the hiring of Bulldog pitching coach Aaron Rembert as the program's new head coach.

Rembert, UNC Asheville's all-time leader in wins with 24, had served as the program's assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the past three years. Under Rembert's leadership, the Bulldogs had two pitchers make it to professional baseball. Right-handed pitcher Justin Schumer is in his third year in the San Francisco Giants organization. Right-handed pitcher Ryan Dull was selected by the Oakland A's earlier in the month in the 32nd round.

The Bulldogs team ERA this past season was 4.90, the lowest team ERA in nine years. He helped lead Asheville to 25 wins and a tie for fourth place in the Big South Conference. The fourth-place finish was the highest by the Bulldogs since the 2003 campaign.

"We're going to miss Aaron Rembert," stated Bulldog coach Tom Smith. "When I got the job three years ago, I didn't wait too long to call on Aaron. He's done a great job with our pitching staff and with our recruiting. We believe our program at UNC Asheville has a bright future and much of that goes to the hard work of Aaron.

"We certainly wish Aaron the best at Mars Hill," added Smith. "He's going to be a fantastic head coach and you'll see their program making big strides under his leadership."

Ironically, Rembert was hired by UNC Asheville in the summer of 2009 after serving as an assistant coach at Mars Hill for four years.
