Anna Gelbach is a rising sophomore at UNC Asheville. She is a runner on the women’s cross country and track and field team. This past year, she was a member of the Distance Medley Relay team that set a Big South Conference and UNC Asheville record at the league’s indoor meet as they finished in first place. Anna expects to graduate in 2016. She is seeking a degree in Marketing with a minor in African Studies. Anna chose UNC Asheville because, “there is nothing better than being surrounded by beautiful mountains, friendly people, and an amazingly close athletic environment. The school’s small size is one of the big things I fell in love with too.”
Anna joined the Student Athlete Advisory Committee as a freshman with hopes of positively influencing all of UNC Asheville’s student-athletes. In addition to SAAC, she is very involved in other extra-curricular activities such as babysitting, working on art, cooking, baking, being a counselor at track camps, and running (for fun). Her service activities include working with ROOM at the Inn, Urban Ministries, The Leukemia Society, and helping out with USATF meets and coaching.
During the summer, Anna will be taking summer classes at UNC Asheville, as well as working for a theater set designing company. She will be working with a family in Columbus, Ohio, as well. After college, she plans on going to Ghana to work at a school and an orphanage. Anna hopes to work with children and help them have better lives after facing childhoods filled with hard times and adversity. Her dream job would be working for Nike’s advertising department. A fun fact about Anna is that she is way too organized.
