CULLOWHEE, N.C.  – UNC Asheville senior thrower Kurt Hibert won the discus event as well as the hammer throw at the Beynon Sports Catamount Classic on Saturday, as the men’s team finished seventh at the event while the women came in 10th place.

Kurt Hibert won the discus throw with a mark of 46.43 meters, finishing almost three meters longer than second place. He won the hammer throw with a mark of 55.84 meters, finishing over seven meters ahead of second.

Corey McClintock posted a second place finish in the hammer throw with a schoolr-record throw of 50.39 meters, finishing less than a meter short of first.

Scarlett Beamon finished third in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a mark of 12:10.37.

Sam Barbeau placed fifth in the men’s javelin with a throw of 45.45 meters, a personal best.

Katie Gamble earned a seventh place finish in the 1500 meter run with a time of 5:01.05.

This was the Bulldogs last meet before heading to the Big South Championship hosted by Winthrop next weekend in Rock Hill, S.C.
