ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men’s soccer team is home on Saturday as the Bulldogs will battle Big South rival High Point at Greenwood Field starting at 1 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children.

Asheville (4-7-0, 1-2-0 BSC) is coming off a 2-0 league victory over Presbyterian College on Wednesday afternoon. The Panthers (3-6-1, 1-1-1 BSC) are coming off a heart-breaking 2-1 loss to league leader and #19 Coastal Carolina Wednesday night.

“Our group is really looking forward to the challenge of playing High Point on Saturday. They are a well coached, athletic and play an attractive style of soccer,” stated Bulldog coach Matt Kern. “Our first half performance against Presbyterian this week was probably our best half of soccer this year, and we hope to build on that for this weekend.”

The Bulldogs got a first- half goal from Emil Gonsalvez and a second-half goal from Bobby Castro to record the victory, their first league win since the 2011 season.  Dan Jackson did a great job in goal as he stopped five shots to record the shutout.

Castro has scored in three consecutive games and he’s the first Asheville player to do that since Scott Szymanski scored in the final four games of the 2007 season.

Asheville is looking for its first win over High Point since the 2005 season when the Bulldogs downed the Panthers 3-0 at Greenwood Field. High Point has gone 6-0-2 vs. Asheville since that loss.

BULLDOG NOTES

The Bulldogs are 3-3-0 at home this season.

Bobby Castro leads Asheville in points with seven, three goals and one assist.

Emil Gonsalvez is tied with Bobby Castro for the team lead in goals with three. All three of Emil’s goals have been game-winners.
