DES MOINES, IOWA - UNC Asheville distance runner Melanie Kulesz competed in the 5,000 meters at the Junior and Senior Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Drake University this weekend.
The rising sophomore became the first Bulldog to ever compete in the prestigious event. Kulesz worked hard in Saturday's race and finished 11th with a time of 18:34. She was seeded last in the event but beat out seven other runners in the race
"Melanie did a great job on Saturday," stated Asheville coach Jesse Norman. "She fought through 100-degree heat and finished strong. We're very proud of her, and glad she'll be running for us for the next three years.
"Melanie will take a well-deserved rest now and be ready to compete in cross country this fall," added Norman.
