ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's tennis team will be seeded eighth and take on top-seeded Winthrop in the quarterfinals of the 2012 Big South Conference tennis championships that will be held in Asheville. The match takes place this Thursday at the Asheville Racquet Club South at 8:30 a.m. Admission is free.
The Bulldogs (6-15, 0-8 BSC) have gone through a tough season with a lot of injuries. Asheville's top four players in the line-up are freshmen.
"The future looks very bright for us as our young players have gotten some great experience in 2012," explained Bulldog coach Lise Gregory. "However, our injuries this year have really taken a toll and really hurt us this season. We will battle hard on Thursday against a great Winthrop team, and we're glad to be at home for the tournament."
The Bulldogs have had some great moments this year with an opening match victory over Davidson and a hard-fought win over Western Carolina.
Freshman Jenna Dodge posted eight singles victories on the year, while freshman Christina Boissevain had seven victories during the season. Emily McNall and Boissevain in doubles teamed up to win eight matches this year.
