SAVANNAH, GA. - The UNC Asheville volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on the final day of the 2012 Tiger Invitational hosted by Savannah State, falling to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and Southern Utah on Saturday.
The Bulldogs fell to UMES 3-0 (27-25, 25-15, 25-21) before falling to SUU 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-13) to fall to 1-7 on the young season.
UMES improved to 5-1 while Southern Utah improved to 3-4 with the victories.
Christine Lakatos led the Bulldogs offensively against the Hawks in the first match of the day, tallying eight kills while hitting for a .412 clip in the three sets. Rachel Wells led the team in digs with 11 against UMES.
The Hawks' were led offensively by Saitaua Iosia and Maline Vaitai, with each posting a match-high 11 kills against the Bulldogs. Jessica Vicic posted 31 assists in directing the Hawks' attack.
Meredith Foster led the Bulldogs in kills against the Thunderbirds in the second match of the day, posting eight for the Blue & White. Foster also recorded four blocks on defense.
SUU got a match-high 14 kills from Ana Mailoto, while setter Gabi Mirand recorded 36 assists for the Thunderbirds. Cashaana Renfro and Annie Strradling each tallied four blocks on defense.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Tuesday evening when they host mountain rival Western Carolina at the Justice Center. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
