ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Heading into halftime tied at one goal apiece the University of Albany and UNC Asheville combined for seven second-half goals, as the Great Danes were able to pull out a 6-3 victory over the Bulldogs at Greenwood Field on Sunday afternoon.

"Today's game was difficult to watch because we were very flat from the kick off," said Asheville head coach Michelle Demko. "We had a good response in the second half and were unlucky by hitting the crossbar and post twice. We will address a few things and regroup for our game on Thursday."

With the setback the Blue & White fall to 1-4-0 on the season while Albany improves to 1-2-1.

Shayla Bergeron posted three goals for the Great Danes, with teammate Allison Carhart chipping in two to the Albany total. Lily Honor had the final goal for Albany.

Amanda Dailor, Kaitlyn Eckert and Shenny Lenhart each posted goals for the Bulldogs, who scored three times on 20 shot attempts.

Bergeron scored the first goal of the match in the fourth minute, when she put home a cross from Maggie DeVerna to give the Great Danes the early lead. The Bulldogs answered in the 26th minute, when Dailor launched a shot from 30 yards out that went through the arms of the outstretched keeper.

Albany struck quickly in the second half, as Bergeron took advantage of an Asheville turnover and chipped in a shot over the keeper to increase the Great Danes' lead to 2-1 in the 52nd minute.

Kaitlyn Eckert evened the match in the 56th minute at two goals apiece, scoring on a cross from Kristen Phelps. Phelps had gotten by her defender on the left side and crossed the ball in front of the face of the goal to a wide open Eckert, who put it home.

Bergeron picked up her third goal of the match with 23:26 left on the clock, forcing a turnover in the box and converting from eight yards out to put Albany up 3-2.

Carhart posted her two goals within six minutes of each other, scoring on a one-on-one with the keeper in the 71st minute and then launching a shot from 18 yards out that sailed into the upper right corner of the goal in the 77th minute.

Honor got in on the action in the 86th minute, scoring on a cross from Carhart to give Alabany a 6-2 lead.

Lenhart recorded her goal in the final minute of play, taking possession from outside of the box, dribbling to the right side of the field and then hitting the upper left corner of the goal from 20 yards out to cut the lead to 6-3.

Asheville will be back in action on Thursday, Sept. 6, when the Bulldogs travel to Greenville, S.C., to take on the Paladins of Furman. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
