SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team dropped a non-conference match to USC Upstate on Tuesday evening, falling 3-1 (25-20, 20-25, 30-28, 25-15) at the Hodge Center on the campus of the Spartans.
With the victory the Spartans improve to 3-4 while the Bulldogs drop to 4-9.
Senior outside hitter Holly Shelton tallied a team-best 15 kills, with Anna Moore chipping in 13 and Meredith Foster adding 10 to the Bulldogs’ total. Setter Katie Davis recorded 45 assists in directing the Asheville offense.
Moore tallied six blocks on the night with Rachel Wells recording a team-high 19 digs on defense.
Upstate’s Kayla Eversgerd posted a match-high 20 kills, with fellow Spartans Kayla McAvoy (18), Mindy Quimby (11) and Emily Bingham (10) each recording double digit kills. Setter Emily Sanders recorded 50 assists in the four-set match, with Eversgerd tallying a match-high 23 digs.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday when they begin play in the Hilton University 49er Invitational, beginning with Towson at 7 p.m. Asheville will then take on host Charlotte on Saturday at 12:30 p.m., followed by Kennesaw State later in the day.
