GREENSBORO, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's swimming team finished up its first meet of the 2012-13 season with a ninth-place finish at the All-North Carolina Invitational at the Greensboro Aquatic Center on Saturday.
The Bulldogs finished with 209 points and finished ahead of four other teams in the two-day event.
"We learned a lot this weekend, and I'm very proud of our performances," commented UNC Asheville coach Elizabeth Lykins. "I was really proud of our improvement from session I to II. This young team continues to learn from each race."
Asheville started the morning session with Galen Broido's solid performance in the 400 yard Individual Medley. She posted a time of 4:46.40 and earned the Bulldogs points with a 13th-place finish.
Alessandra Troncoso took 22nd in the 100 yard Butterfly. She had a time of 1:01.25.
Later in the morning session, the Bulldogs stepped up in the 100 yard Breaststroke when Troncoso took third place with a time of 1:06.3, and Chloe Carr earned 13th place points in 1:09.19.
In the final event of Session II was the 1650. Broido was Asheville's lone participant. She went 18:26.80 and earned 13th place points.
In Session III, Troncoso captured sixth place in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:25.50. Carr came in 13th and had a time of 2:29.22
The final event of the day was the 400 yard Freestyle relay race. The team of Broido, Ashley Ireland, Carr and Troncoso posted a time of 3:52.31 and beat several opponents.
UNC Asheville will be in action again on Friday, Oct. 19 when the Bulldogs travel to VMI for a tri-meet with the Keydets and Gardner-Webb.
