ASHEVILLE, N.C.  Jon Ole Reinhardsen scored off a corner kick in the 78th minute to give Gardner-Webb a 1-0 Big South Conference victory over homestanding UNC Asheville Wednesday afternoon at Greenwood Field.

The victory was the third straight (3-8-1, 2-1-1) for the Runnin' Bulldogs, while the Bulldogs (1-12-0, 0-6-0 BSC) lost for the 12th straight time.

"I am disappointed for our guys in the result today, as I thought we played well enough at times to get something out of the game," stated Asheville coach Matt Kern. "However, we have to give full credit to Gardner Webb as they found a way to score, but I will continue to work with guys to be a little tougher in the penalty box. I need to continue to work with the group on defending corners."

The game was evenly matched though Gardner-Webb held a slight edge in shots at 16-9. The Runnin' Bulldogs held a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.

Asheville had been getting the run off play before the visitors scored the winner. Off a corner kick, Marius Hammersmark sent a pass into the box that Reinhardsen was able to head into the back of the goal for the only score of the match at 78:16.

It marked the second straight game for Gardner-Webb that Reinhardsen and Hammersmark connected off a corner kick for the winning goal as the Runnin' Bulldogs beat VMI on Saturday, 1-0.

The Bulldogs tried to get the equalizer in the final 10 minutes and just missed on some late chances. Rob May's shot just went wide with six minutes left.  With two minutes remaining, Trey Hemphill shot just missed going into the left corner of the net.

In the final seconds, Bobby Castro took a shot that went wide right as the buzzer sounded.

GWU goalkeeper Scott Krotee earned the shutout with three saves. Asheville goalkeeper Dan Jackson had a solid match with six saves.

UNC Asheville remains at home and hosts Big South foe Radford Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. Gardner-Webb travels to #23 High Point for a key league match Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
