ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's soccer team celebrates Senior Day on Saturday as the Bulldogs finish up their home schedule with a Big South Conference match with VMI starting at Noon.
The match was originally scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. but was moved to Noon several weeks ago. The women's soccer team will now play Winthrop at 2:30 p.m.
Asheville (1-13-0, 0-7-0 BSC) faces a VMI (1-11-1, 0-6-1 BSC) team that has had almost as frustrating a year as the Bulldogs. Matt Kern's team will look for its first league win on Saturday and end a 13-game losing streak. Three of Asheville's last four losses have been by just one goal, including a 2-1 defeat last Saturday to Big South-leader Radford.
The Keydets have lost five one-goal matches this season and fell in overtime at home to Liberty on Wednesday, 3-2.
VMI knocked off Asheville in Lexington last season, 2-1.
Prior to the match, the Bulldogs will honor their lone senior in midfielder David Parra.
"We are looking forward to hosting VMI on Saturday and recognizing our lone senior, David Parra, on senior day," commented Kern. "The group has had a good week of training, and we know that VMI will be very organized and hard working."
Kenneth Lingerfelt leads the Bulldogs in scoring with two goals and five points on the year. Sophomore Dan Jackson has been Asheville's starting goalkeeper for the year and has posted 37 saves. He has started 12 of the Bulldogs 14 matches.
Asheville finishes the regular season with road matches at Campbell (Oct.27) and Liberty (Nov. 2).
