CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Liberty setter Jade Craycraft (Wooster, Ohio) has been named the Choice Hotels Big South Volleyball Player of the Week, while UNC Asheville setter Katie Davis (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) is the CRONS Brand Freshman of the Week for matches played Oct. 15-21. In addition, UNC Asheville’s Rachel Wells (Statesville, N.C.) earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Craycraft played an integral part in Liberty’s 2-0 week. The junior averaged 12.17 sets per set and totaled 73 assists for the week. She also recorded eight kills, 23 digs and eight blocks. In the Flames’ 3-0 win against Presbyterian, she posted four kills, 32 assists, eight digs and four blocks. Craycraft then recorded another four kills, 41 assists, 15 digs and four blocks in the 3-0 sweep of Winthrop.
Davis’ solid performance helped UNC Asheville to a 2-0 week. She totaled 91 assists on the week and averaged 10.11 assists per set. She also recorded nine kills, 25 digs and four blocks last week. In the 3-1 win against Charleston Southern, she posted three kills, 43 assists, 11 digs and two blocks. Davis recorded another six kills, 48 assists, 14 digs and two blocks in the 3-2 win against league-leading Coastal Carolina. This is Davis’ second nod for Freshman of the Week.
Wells anchored UNC Asheville’s back row last week. She recorded 58 digs and averaged 6.44 digs per set. In the win against Charleston Southern, she posted a career-high 35 digs. Wells then tallied another 23 digs versus Coastal Carolina.
