ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's swim team hosts its first official meet in 36 years when the Bulldogs take on Campbell Saturday afternoon at Justice Center Pool starting at 5 p.m. Admission is free.

The meet will be video-streamed and can be seen under the multimedia tag at www.uncabulldogs.com.

Asheville has brought back swimming after the school had a co-ed program from 1972-76. The women's swim team hosted an exhibition match against Mars Hill back in September and a capacity crowd greeted the revived program.

Head Coach Elizabeth Lykins only has nine swimmers on this year's roster but the Bulldogs have quickly showed that they'll be a competitive team. Asheville defeated VMI in a dual meet with the Keydets two weeks ago and then won four events against Radford the next day.

"I really like the way our team has improved with each meet. It's been very enjoyable watching our team swim faster with experience and training," commented Lykins. "We still have work to do but overall I'm really pleased with our effort."

Lykins is looking forward to hosting an official home meet.

"Everyone is excited about swimming at home again. The exhibition meet was wonderful, and I look for even a bigger crowd on Saturday," explained Lykins. "I think all of us were just blown away with the enthusiasm the crowd had from start to finish."

Lykins appreciates Campbell head coach Pascal Molinard agreeing to come to Asheville.

"When I first got hired and started to schedule, Pascal was nice enough to call and say he wanted to come to Asheville for a meet," stated Lykins. "I appreciate him wanting to come, and we're anxious to show off what we've done to the pool over the past few months."

Campbell brings a talented team to Asheville on Saturday. The Camels are 6-1 in dual meets this season.

"This is going to be a good test for our squad," declared Lykins. "Campbell has a good team with some talented swimmers in a lot of different areas. We're only going to have eight swimmers on Saturday and that will make it tough to win."

Asheville swam at Radford two weeks and put up some outstanding individual results. Ashley Ireland earned two individual first-place finishes on the day. She took first in the 50 yard Freestyle and 100 yard Freestyle. She posted a time of 25.95 in the 50 and 57.86 in the 100.

The Bulldogs went 1-2 in the 200 yard Breaststroke. Alessandra Troncoso came in first with a time of 2:28.47, while Chole' Carr finished second at 2:31.38.
