ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's basketball team is home on Thursday when the Bulldogs host Wofford College at Kimmel Arena starting at 7 p.m. Thursday's game will be video-streamed and can be seen under the multimedia tag at www.uncabulldogs.com.
First-year coach Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick's Bulldogs opened the season on Saturday with a 58-45 loss to Western Carolina at home. Asheville battled hard and led 28-26 at halftime but could only score 17 points in the second half.
Wofford is 1-1 on the season. The Terriers earned their first win of the season on Saturday with a thrilling 79-76 overtime victory over Maine.
"We are looking forward to Thursday's match-up and another opportunity to grow as a team and progress in this journey," stated Kirkpatrick. "However, I told the team it is not enough to feel good about the progress we have made since the beginning of the season. We have to continually want more. This group is not satisfied with just getting better; they want to reap the results of their hard work. Wofford is a very experienced and well-coached team with high-quality depth. They played very aggressively in their loss to NC State and in their victory over Maine."
Junior guard Shonese Jones led Asheville with 19 points on Saturday vs. WCU. Freshman Paige Love came off the bench to score seven points. Kelli Riles led the Bulldogs in rebounding with seven boards.
Morgan Wrightson leads Wofford in scoring with a 13.5 average. Rachel Brittenham is next with an 11.5 per game mark.
After Thursday's game, the Bulldogs hit the road on Saturday for a game at Eastern Kentucky. The game will start at 2 p.m.
