ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's basketball team begins a two-game homestand at Kimmel Arena when the Bulldogs host Big East foe South Florida Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.

Wednesday's game will be video-streamed and can be seen under the multimedia tag at www.uncabulldogs.com.

Asheville is 1-4 on the season and fell at #25 UNC Chapel Hill on Sunday, 101-42. The Bulldogs battled the Tar Heels pretty close in the first half before UNC put the game away in the second half. Gentry Manley led Asheville with 12 points in the contest with Shonese Jones adding 11 points.

The Bulldogs face another good team in South Florida. The Bulls are 4-0 on the young season and are coming off an 85-58 victory over North Dakota on Friday.

"We are excited to host a Big East opponent in Kimmel Arena," stated first-year coach Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick. "I have known South Florida's head coach for years, and he does a great job with his program, recruiting kids to play in an up-tempo and aggressive offensive and defensive system. Our experience on Sunday in Chapel Hill was good preparation for the kind of intensity, and focus we will need to compete on Wednesday night against a seasoned South Florida team."

The Bulldogs are in the midst of playing four of their next five games at home. Asheville opens Big South Conference play this Saturday afternoon (Dec. 1) when the Bulldogs host Campbell starting at 2 p.m.  Asheville plays at USC Upstate on Dec. 3 before returning to Kimmel to host Columbia College (Dec. 8) and Kennesaw State (Dec. 13). The game with Kennesaw State has a new starting time as that contest now starts at 6 p.m.

Jones continues to lead the Bulldogs in scoring with a 12.0 average. Manley has led Asheville in scoring in back-to-back games and has a 9.6 per game mark. Kelli Riles is averaging 8.2 points and a team-leading 10.0 rebounds per outing.

South Florida is led by senior guard Andrea Smith with a 19.0 scoring average. The Bulls program is led by head coach Jose Fernandez. He's led the USF program to eight straight post-season berths, including the 2009 WNIT championship.

BULLDOG NOTES

Senior center Kelli Riles became just the fourth player in school history to reach 800 rebounds when she grabbed her 800th in the first half against North Carolina on Sunday. Riles has 802 rebounds now and is fourth all-time at Asheville for rebounds.

Sophomore forward Jeanne Buckner has seven field goals on the season and all seven are 3-pointers. She made just one last year. Her seven treys lead Asheville in that category.

This is Asheville's first game against a Big East opponent since playing at Marquette in the 2010-11 season.
