ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's and women's indoor track and field teams open the 2012-13 season on Saturday morning at the Appalachian Invitational starting at 11 a.m.
Jesse Norman will bring most of both Bulldog squads to the Holmes Center. Asheville will be without some of its distance runners on Saturday as they'll get a rest after competing in the regional a few weeks ago.
"We're excited about the upcoming season," commented Norman. "This is a great meet to start the season, and we're excited to see where we are at this point of the year."
On the men's side, Asheville returns junior hurdler Milan Ristic who won Big South Conference championships in the hurdles last season in both the indoor and outdoor season.
On the women's side, the Bulldogs welcome back senior Sarah Gentry who won the Big South Conference championship in the 800 meters in the outdoor season last year.
"We like the experience we have coming back this year," declared Norman. "Our depth is a little better than in the past.
"We're also pleased with our freshmen class," added Norman. "We believe we've got some freshmen on both the men's and women's side that can make an impact right away. It's going to be fun to watch them perform on Saturday."
