ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville's student-athletes enjoyed an excellent performance in the classroom this past fall.
UNC Asheville placed 114 student-athletes out of 192 on the Athletic Director's 3.0 & Above Club last semester. Five student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 for the fall. In addition, the GPA for all of the student-athletes this past semester was a 3.0157.
"We were delighted with our student-athletes performance in the classroom this past fall," declared Rebecca Nelms Keil, Director of Student-Athlete Services and Affairs. "To have close to 60 percent (59 percent) of our student-athletes have a GPA of 3.0 or above for a semester is extremely gratifying.
"This can't happen without our great faculty working with our student-athletes," added Keil. "Our coaches also work well with our student-athletes to allow them to have success in the classroom."
UNC Asheville had three teams recognized this past fall for their work in the classroom. The women's tennis team was honored for the fifth straight year by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for having a GPA of 3.20 or above. The men's and women's soccer teams were recognized by the National Soccer Coaches of America for having a GPA of 3.00 or above last year. In addition, junior Bobby Castro was selected for the Capital One Academic All-District 3 Men's Soccer Division I team. He was one of just 11 players from the Southeast Region to be selected to this team.
