DAVIDSON, N.C. - Davidson picked up three singles victories and captured the doubles point as the Wildcats edged UNC Asheville 4-3 in women's tennis action Sunday afternoon.


The close loss evened the Bulldogs record at 1-1, while the Wildcats improved to 1-1.


Davidson won all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Asheville picked up exciting three-set victories from Christine Boissevain and Amryn Soldier to help tie the match at 3-3. Boissevain fought back from losing the first set to slip past Stephani Synn at #3 singles, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Solider split the first two sets at #5 singles against Catherine Wood but roared back to win the final set 6-3.


Freshman Erica Rivero won in straight sets at #4 singles as she cruised past Nisha Crouser, 6-1, 7-5.


The Bulldogs return home next weekend for two matches at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown. Asheville hosts USC Upstate on Saturday (Feb. 2) starting at 3 p.m., followed by a match against Mars Hill Sunday (Feb. 3) also at 3 p.m.
