For the second straight week, senior men's basketball player Jeremy Atkinson is the Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina Athlete of the Week. It's the fifth time Jeremy has earned the award this season.
Each week the school selects a BCBSNC Athlete of the Week upon their performance from the previous week's action.
Jeremy had two great games for the Bulldogs as he led Asheville to two key Big South Conference victories. Atkinson scored 20 points with five rebounds on Wednesday when the Bulldogs rallied past Winthrop, 69-56. He went 8-of-9 from the free throw line, all in the second half to help seal the victory.
Friday night at VMI, Atkinson tallied 24 points with 10 rebounds and four steals to lead Asheville to a 90-79 win over the Keydets. He was a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line and knocked down two 3-pointers.
Jeremy is Asheville's leading scorer with a 17.7 average and tops the club in rebounding at 7.5. The Bulldogs have two crucial home games this week as they try and maintain their South Division lead. Asheville hosts Gardner-Webb Wednesday night at 7 p.m. and Charleston Southern Saturday afternoon starting at 2 p.m. Both teams defeated the Bulldogs earlier this season.
