ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Big South-leading Liberty got 14 points from Tolu Omotola and 13 points from Devon Brown as the Lady Flames as the Lady Flames downed homestanding UNC Asheville 75-43 at Kimmel Arena Thursday night.

 

The Lady Flames (21-6, 13-2 BSC) won for the eighth straight time and remained perfect on the road this year in the Big South at 8-0. The Bulldogs (2-25, 0-16 BSC) lost their 17th consecutive game.

 

Asheville was led by freshman guard Paige Love. She tied her career-high with 18 points. Kelli Riles, who was honored prior to the game for reaching 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds, added eight points and eight rebounds.  She moved into fourth place on the Big South career list for rebounding as she now has 1,017 rebounds. Riles now has 1,012 points and moved into 14th place on Asheville's career scoring list.

 

Liberty had 11 players score in the game. Katelyn Adams and Sadalia Ellis had nine points each. The visitors forced 20 Asheville turnovers with Reagan Miller and Brown picking up four steals each.

 

The Lady Flames led 8-6 early before embarking on a 13-2 run over a five-minute stretch to build a 21-8 lead on a lay-up by Omotola at the 12:48 mark.

 

Liberty continued to build on the margin and pushed the lead to 27 at 41-14 on a basket from Sadalia Ellis at the 2:46 mark.

 

Liberty shot .643 (18-of-28) from the field in the first half. The Flames got scoring from seven different players to build a 41-20 halftime lead. Brown led the visitors attack with nine points, while Omotola added eight points.

 

Asheville was led by seven points from Love in the opening half, while Riles scored all six of her points in the last two minutes of the opening half.

 

The much taller Flames held at 40-25 advantage on the boards. Jasmine Gardner led the Liberty rebounding efforts with eight boards. Adams and Omotola finished with seven each.

 

Grace Blaylock finished with six assists for the Bulldogs.

 

Liberty shot .508 (31-of-61) from the field for the game, while Asheville shot .340 (16-of-47) from the field.

 

UNC Asheville plays its final home game on Saturday when the Bulldogs host league newcomer Longwood starting at 2 p.m. Liberty stays on the road and plays at Gardner-Webb Saturday at 3 p.m.
