ASHEVILLE, N.C.  - The UNC Asheville Athletics Department inducted its 10th Hall of Fame Class Friday night at the Wilma M. Sherrill Center. The 2013 UNC Asheville Athletics Hall of Fame ceremony was presented by TD Bank.

The school inducted former women's basketball player Vicki Giffin and former men's soccer player Mike Roach.

Both were inducted into the Hall of Fame by Chancellor Anne Ponder and Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone.

Giffin was a four-year starter for the women's basketball program from 1993-97. She was the Big South Rookie of the Year in 1994. As a senior, Vicki was named Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Big South Player of the Year. She completed her career as the program's third all-time leading scorer with 1,701 career points. Giffin currently holds the single-season record for field goal accuracy, career record for free throws made and single-game record for steals. She was twice named UNC Asheville Female Athlete of the Year and was an Academic All-District selection for two years. Giffin was an All-Conference performer for three straight years.

Mike Roach was a two-year starter for the UNC Asheville men's soccer team. He was a key player for the Bulldogs at the midfield position when Asheville won the 2001 Big South Conference regular-season title. He was the 2001 Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's soccer. Roach then became in 2001 the first Bulldog student-athlete in the Division I era to be named to the Academic All-America first team.  In addition, he was the 2002 Big South Scholar Athlete of the Year along with being the 2001 and 2002 UNC Asheville Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Both Giffin and Roach made wonderful speeches about their time at UNC Asheville. Giffin thanked her coaches and every one of her teammates for her success along with her family. She was also grateful to UNC Asheville for giving her a chance to play Division I basketball. Roach thanked former Bulldog head coach Steve Cornish for allowing him to transfer to UNC Asheville from Tampa in the spring of 2000. He mentioned the faculty that worked with him to allow him to be successful in the classroom and on the soccer field.
