ROCK HILL, S.C. - Winthrop placed four players in double figures as the Eagles held off cold-shooting UNC Asheville 70-61 in the regular-season finale at the Winthrop Coliseum Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (16-15, 10-6 BSC) suffered through a cold-shooting day from the field as Asheville shot just .318 (21-of-66) from the field and .176 (3-of-17) from the three-point line.

The Blue & White out-rebounded Winthrop 41-37 and had 20 offensive rebounds to seven for the Eagles. However, the Eagles shot .500 (25-of-50) from the field for the game.

"Winthrop outplayed and out-hustled us today," stated Asheville coach Eddie Biedenbach. "We didn't play badly but we missed too many easy shots and didn't get the job on defense.

"Winthrop has played well at home all year long and they did it again today," added Biedenbach. "We just didn't play well enough today. It's time to regroup and get ready for the tournament."

The Bulldogs will play Tuesday in the first round of the Big South Tournament against an opponent and at a time yet to be determined.

Jeremy Atkinson led Asheville with 17 points, 14 in the second half. Keith Hornsby added 11 points, while Corey Littlejohn finished with 10 points.

The Eagles were led by Joab Jerome with 15 points and nine rebounds. Andre Smith and Christian Farmer added 14 points each. James Bourne chipped in 13 points.

D.J. Cunningham blocked four shots for Asheville and is now tied for the single-season record with Kenny George at 93 blocks.

Will Weeks grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds and had nine points.
