GRINDAVIK, Iceland – Former UNC Asheville men’s basketball player Chris Stephenson will continue his playing career as he’ll play for Grindavik in the Iceland-Dominos League that will start on October 10.
Stephenson signed a contract with Grindavik last month after playing for the Tampa Bay Rebels in the Florida Basketball Association. Stephenson led the Rebels to the FBA championship game before falling to the Heartland Prowl, 111-109. Stephenson scored 24 points, grabbed six rebounds and had four assists.
Grindavik is a fishing town at the peninsula of Reykjanes at the south-western coast of Iceland. It is a town of approximately 2,800 people that mostly work in the fishing industry. It is about 30 miles away from Reykjavík, Iceland’s capital and largest city.
Stephenson graduated from UNC Asheville in 2012 after a great career with the Bulldogs. He was a starter at forward for the Bulldogs for three seasons and helped lead Asheville to the 2011 and 2012 Big South Conference championships. Chris earned a spot on the Big South All-Tournament team in 2012. He finished his career with 1,145 points and in 22nd place on Asheville’s scoring list.
