ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men’s soccer team gets back in action Friday night when the Bulldogs travel to Appalachian State to take on the Mountaineers. Friday’s match is slated to start at 7 p.m.

The match with the Apps begins a three-game road swing for the Bulldogs. After playing at ASU, Asheville plays at USC Upstate (Sept. 10) and North Florida (Sept. 14). Matt Kern’s club isn’t home again until the Bulldogs host the Ashville Invitational Sept. 20 & 22.

The Bulldogs are 1-1-0 on the season after splitting a pair of games last weekend. Asheville fell at UNC Greensboro, 3-0 to open the season and then slipped past Brevard on Sunday, 3-1 at Greenwood Field.

Appalachian State is 0-0-2 on the season as the Apps tied both Navy and Marshall to open the year.

“The match on Friday night in Boone could be very exciting,” stated Kern. “App State is extremely well-coached, athletic and organized defensively.  We have been working on improving our speed of play this week and hope to show some progress from this past weekend.”

Asheville got three goals against Brevard from Paul Egle, Emil Gonsalvez and Stabler Cochrane. The Bulldogs have gotten some stellar goalkeeper from Dan Jackson in the first part of the year. He has 11 saves in the first two matches of the year.

The teams played last year at Greenwood Field with ASU scoring three goals in the second half to record a 3-0 victory. It was a 1-0 match for most of the second half until the Apps scored twice in the final five minutes to seal the victory.

BULLDOG NOTES

This will be the second of three games Asheville will face against teams from the SoCon this year. The Bulldogs will host Georgia Southern in two weeks.

Asheville is looking for its first win over the Mountaineers since the 2007 season when the Bulldogs edged the Apps, 2-0 in Boone.

The Bulldogs are looking for their first road victory since a 2-0 triumph at Winthrop on Oct. 11, 2011.
