CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team salvaged a victory over Chattanooga to go 1-1 on Saturday in the Comfort Inn and Suites Invitational at Chattanooga.
The Bulldogs lost earlier in the day to Charlotte 3-1 before knocking off the Lady Mocs, 3-1 Saturday night. The 49ers downed Asheville 25-18, 23-25, 25-21, 27-25.
Playing Chattanooga, the Bulldogs lost the first set 25-23 before Asheville (5-3) roared back to win the next three sets, 25-18, 25-17, 25-17.
The Blue & White went 1-3 in the tournament losing on Friday in four close sets to Tennessee and UT-Martin.
Sophomore outside hitter Christine Lakatos earned a spot on the All-Tournament team with her play during the weekend. She had 13 kills and 14 digs vs. Charlotte and then added 12 kills and seven digs against Chattanooga. Lakatos had three double-doubles (kills and digs) in four matches this weekend.
Anna Moore and Meredith Foster had 10 kills for the Bulldogs against Charlotte. Rachel Wells picked up 25 digs.
Moore finished with 10 kills, seven blocks and four service aces against the Lady Mocs, while Wells contributed 23 digs. Freshman Shelby Erickson had 10 kills and three blocks against Chattanooga.
The Bulldogs play next weekend in the UNC Wilmington Invitational. Asheville faces host UNC Wilmington on Friday, Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m. The Blue & White will then play North Carolina A&T and Mercer the next day.
