UNC Asheville head women’s basketball coach Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick has announced the hiring of Daniel Barber as a new assistant coach.

Barber joined the Bulldog coaching staff after serving as a team manager and graduate assistant at the University of Florida for head coach Amanda Butler.

Kirkpatrick worked with Barber at Florida and is delighted to have him as a part of the Bulldog staff.

"I am extremely excited that Daniel Barber is joining our Bulldog family as an assistant coach in our program. I have known Daniel from my years as an assistant coach at Florida and always admired his work ethic and passion for the game,” stated Kirkpatrick. “When the opportunity presented itself to hire an assistant we wanted someone with on-court experience, work ethic, integrity and the ability to relate to our student-athletes and prospective student athletes. Daniel embodies all of those qualities. He is currently completing his Masters in Leadership which will also bring a unique skill set to our staff and benefit our players even further."

Last year, Barber was responsible for conducting individual summer workouts with the team. He assisted the coaching staff with scouting reports and worked with team finance.

As the head manager with Florida in the 2011-12 season, he was responsible for distribution of equipment to players, coaches and staff. Barber also assisted with game-day operations and helped operated summer camps.

He graduated from Florida in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science degree in nutrition with specialization in dietetics.
