JACKSONVLLE, Fla. – The UNC Asheville men’s soccer team will look for its second straight victory on Saturday when the Bulldogs travel to North Florida for a first-time meeting with the Ospreys. Kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Asheville (2-2-0) picked up an important road win on Tuesday when the Bulldogs slipped past USC Upstate 2-1. Quentin Reynolds scored his first career goal in the 88th minute to give Matt Kern’s club the victory. Kenneth Lingerfelt also scored for Asheville. Sophomore goalkeeper Dan Jackson made five saves in the win.
The Bulldogs have a tough task on Saturday with North Florida. The Ospreys are much improved from last season’s 4-13-0. They’re 2-0-1 on the year and are coming off a 1-0 victory over #25 Central Florida.
“We are really looking forward to the opportunity to test ourselves against a very good North Florida team in Jacksonville,” stated Kern. “They are off to a terrific start just having beaten Central Florida away, and we are playing with some confidence after our Upstate result.”
The Bulldogs finally get to play some home matches next weekend when they host the Asheville Invitational on Sept. 20 & 22. The four-team field includes Georgia Southern, Howard and Radford. Asheville plays Howard on Sept 20 and Georgia Southern on Sept. 22.
UNC Asheville has scored five goals this season from five different players.
The Bulldogs’ 2-2 start is the best for Asheville since the 2010 season.
Asheville is looking to win back-to-back road games for the first time since the 2009 campaign.
When the Bulldogs host the Asheville Invitational next weekend, it will mark the first time they’ve hosted an in-season tournament since the 1988 season.
Kenny Lingerfelt and Paul Egle lead the Bulldogs in scoring with three points each.
