ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women’s soccer team plays its final non-conference match of the regular season Tuesday when the Bulldogs journey to South Carolina State. Tuesday’s match will kick-off at 7 p.m.
Asheville is gunning for its third straight win after winning two overtime matches last week. The Bulldogs edged Mars Hill 1-0 last Wednesday afternoon at Greenwood Field when Shenny Lenhart scored one minute into overtime.
Lenhart struck again on Friday at Alabama State. The Bulldogs (4-3-0) led 2-0 on goals from Kennedy Garrett and Maddi Meglic before the Hornets tied the match with two late goals. But one minute into overtime, Lenhart scored to give the Bulldogs their first road win of the year by a 3-2 score.
Asheville faces a dangerous South Carolina State (3-6-1) team that has already beaten Big South teams Presbyterian College and Gardner-Webb this season before falling to VMI.
Kennedy Garrett leads the Bulldogs in scoring with two goals, two assists and six points. Lenhart is next with two goals with assist for five points.
Asheville is seeking its first three-game winning streak since the 2008 season. A win by the Bulldogs on Tuesday would give them their fifth win of the season, matching last year’s win total.
Michelle Demko’s club begins Big South Conference play next week on Sept. 25 when Asheville hosts Campbell at Greenwood Field. The match against the Lady Camels starts a four-game homestand, all against league opponents.
