GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women’s swimming team opens up the 2013-14 season on Friday at the All North Carolina Invitational that will be held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Friday’s meet begins at 5:30 p.m. and will start again on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Bulldog coach Elizabeth Lykins is excited about the first meet.

“We are looking forward to kicking off the second season of Bulldog swimming this weekend in Greensboro at the All North Carolina Invitational,” stated Lykins. “This will be an excellent opportunity for our newcomers to see the championship format for the first time.

“We are excited to race in a very fast pool against some excellent competition,” added the second-year coach. “The meet will feature two ACC teams in Duke and N.C. State plus we will see three of our Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association squads in Campbell, Davidson and Gardner-Webb.”

A year ago, the Bulldogs won three dual meets and finished in ninth place at the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association championships. Not bad for a team with just eight swimmers as Asheville finished in front of four other teams with full rosters.

“We want to accomplish more this year,” commented Lykins. “We want to finish in the top half of the conference and win some more dual races.”

Asheville returns five of its eight members this season. They include Galen Broido, Hallie Gillespie, Ashley Ireland, Kristen Lawson and Alessandra Troncoso.
