ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Meredith Foster had 11 kills and three blocks as UNC Asheville remained perfect at home this season with a 3-0 victory over North Carolina A&T Thursday night in non-conference volleyball action at Justice Center. The Bulldogs won the match by the scores of 25-20, 25-13, 25-12.

Asheville (13-8) won its third straight match and improved to 6-0 at Justice Center this season. The Aggies fell to 4-20.

Anna Moore, Christine Lakatos and Shelby Erickson had eight kills each for the Blue & White. Rachel Well had a game-high 18 digs. Lakatos added four blocks for the home team.

North Carolina A&T was led by a game-high 12 kills from Jillian Nobles. Liz Martino finished with a team-high 17 assists.

“We started off a little slow but played better as the match went on,” commented Bulldog coach Frederico Santos. “I thought we did a solid job in all areas of the game in the second and third sets. Everyone contributed something tonight and that’s always good to see.”

The Aggies led for most of the first set before the Bulldogs went on a 6-1 run to grab an 18-14 lead behind three kills from Lakotos. But the Aggies wouldn’t go away. Led by Nobles’ three kills, the visitors knotted the match at 20-20.

Moore put Asheville ahead 21-20 with a kill. Another kill from Moore pushed the score to 22-20. North Carolina A&T made two straight hitting errors to make it 24-20 before a kill from Lakotos give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.

“Obviously winning the first set was the key,” stated Santos. “North Carolina A&T gave us fits in that first set and luckily we were able to survive and get the job done.”

The Bulldogs really took charge in the second set. Leading 4-3 when Laktos went to serve, Asheville ran off 10 straight points to roar to a 14-3 lead. The Bulldogs cruised into intermission with a 25-13 set win and 2-0 advantage.

Asheville dominated the third set. Leading 7-3, Lakatos led another big Asheville run with her serving. She served for eight straight Bulldog points to allow the home team to lead 15-3. Erickson and Foster combined for four kills in the run.

The home team cruised from that point as the Bulldogs hit .464 for the set (15-2-28) and won 25-12.

UNC Asheville gets back in Big South Conference action Friday when the Bulldogs travel to Gardner-Webb for a crucial league match starting at 7 p.m.
