WINSTON, SALEM, N.C. – UNC Asheville set school records in the weight throw both on the men’s and women’s side Saturday afternoon at the JDL College Kickoff.


Senior Kurt Hibert set a school record in the weight throw and finished in third place with a throw of 17.59 meters.


Senior Corey McClintock also set a school record as her throw of 16.87 meters also placed her in third place.


“Kurt and Corey did a great job today,” stated Bulldog coach Jesse Norman. “This was a great start to the season. We had some solid results against great competition.”


Freshman Argia Gibson took sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 11.40 meters. The leap was the second best in school history.


Other highlights on the day included a fifth-place finish by Skyler Winchester in the 3,000 meters as he posted a time of 8:55.26.


Rachel Carson earned a third-place finish in the mile as she posted a time of 5:25. Alyssa Lashway came in fourth in the 800 meters at a time of 2:20.68
