ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville Bulldogs go for their fifth straight win on Tuesday afternoon when the Bulldogs host NAIA foe Montreat College at Kimmel Arena starting at 2 p.m.

Tuesday’s game can be heard on WWNC Radio (570-AM) with the pre-game show starting at 1:30 p.m. The game can also be seen via the Big South Network for free at under the multimedia tag.

Asheville (5-7) posted its fourth straight win on Saturday with an emotional 75-61 victory over UNC Wilmington. The game was a homecoming for former Bulldog head coach Eddie Biedenbach who is now an assistant at UNCW. Senior forward Jaron Lane led the Dogs with a career-high 24 points, while senior center D.J. Cunningham added 13 points and a season-high 16 rebounds.

“We played well on Saturday and did a good job on the defensive end,” commented first-year coach Nick McDevitt. “We’re starting to play better and with more consistency but we need to keep doing that with Big South Conference play starting next week.”

McDevitt expects a challenge from a much-improved Montreat squad. The Cavaliers went 9-20 last year but are already 8-6 this season. Montreat has led the NAIA in three-point percentage (.504) and are ninth in scoring (91.4), pending a game with Emory & Henry on Monday night.

“We better be ready for the challenge that Montreat will give us on Tuesday,” declared McDevitt. “They are much improved this season and are really shooting the ball well.  Montreat has already played some Division I teams in exhibition games so they’ll be ready for us. We need to be ready to play hard for 40 minutes Tuesday afternoon.”

Freshman guard Andrew Rowsey continues to lead the Bulldogs in scoring with a 15.7 average. He’s scored in double figures in 11 of Asheville’s 12 games this season. Lane is averaging 13.1 points per game, while Cunningham has an 11.8 scoring average. D.J. now leads the Big South Conference in rebounding (9.0) and blocked shots (3.3).

Montreat is led by senior guard La'Bris Adams. He’s averaging 23.8 points per game and that includes a 34-point outburst against Northwestern Ohio to start the season. He’s shooting an amazing 58 percent from the field.

The Bulldogs have controlled the series and lead the all-time match-ups 19-2. Asheville has won the last seven meetings, including last year’s 85-51 victory at Kimmel Arena. Jeremy Atkinson led Asheville with 22 points. The Bulldogs went on an early 22-4 run to take control of the game and cruised to the win.

UNC Asheville has won 24 straight games against non-Division I opponents.

The Bulldogs are 29-6 all-time at Kimmel Arena.

Asheville is 5-1 when it out-rebounds its opponents.

The Bulldogs are 9-2 the past two Decembers.

Jaron Lane has 927 career points.

D.J. Cunningham has 641 career rebounds and moved into seventh place on Asheville’s career rebounding list on Saturday. He had seven blocks on Saturday and now has 210 career blocks. Former teammate John Williams is in sight for D.J. in both categories. Williams is sixth all-time in rebounding with 684 boards and is the all-time leader in blocks shots with 255.

The Bulldogs have used six different starting line-ups this year but have used the same one the past four games and are 4-0.
