ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Andrew Rowsey scored 18 points, while D.J. Cunningham added 13 points and tied a career-high with 18 rebounds as UNC Asheville rolled to an 84-70 Big South Conference victory over visiting Presbyterian College Saturday afternoon at Kimmel Arena.

 

The Bulldogs (8-8, 2-0 BSC) won for the seventh time in the last eight games. Asheville improved to 18-3 at Kimmel Arena against BSC teams.

 

Presbyterian College (4-13, 0-2 BSC) was led by Jordan Downing’s 18 points. Danny Herrera finished with 17 points, 15 in the second half. Reggie Dillard added 12 points. William Truss contributed eight points, 10 rebounds and six blocked shots.

 

Jaron Lane chipped in 13 points for the Bulldogs, while Corey Littlejohn enjoyed his first career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

 

Asheville dominated the game inside as the home team out-rebounded PC, 50-26. They outscored the Blue Hose in the paint, 42-26.

 

Rowsey went 7-of-10 from the field, grabbed five rebounds and added a career-high five assists.

 

Cunningham blocked six shots, all in the second half.

 

The Bulldogs led from start to finish. Asheville went on an early 11-2 run to race to a 20-10 lead. Cunningham scored six points in the early run.

 

Leading 29-19 late in the first half, the Bulldogs went on 10-3 run to push the margin to 17 at 39-22. Five different Asheville players scored during the run. The home team led 43-29 at halftime.

 

Lane scored nine points in the opening half as the Bulldogs shot .516 (16-of-31) from the field. Jaleel Roberts went 3-of-3 from the field for Asheville in the first half with two blocked shots.

 

The Bulldogs started out strong in the second half and built the lead to 55-33 as Rowsey scored seven early points.

 

PC used the hot shooting of Herrerra and went 7-of-14 from beyond the arc to close to 78-68 with 2:30 left. But Lane hit four free throws and a lay-up from Littlejohn sealed the win.

 

UNC Asheville travels to Big South foe Coastal Carolina Wednesday night at 7 p.m. Presbyterian College heads to Big South preseason favorite Charleston Southern at 7 p.m.
