Bulldog Track and Field in Winston-Salem This Weekend

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men’s and women’s indoor track and field squads will head to Winston-Salem on Friday and Saturday for the Hilton Garden Invitational that will be held at the DL Fast Indoor Track Complex in Winston-Salem.

 

The two-day completion begins Friday morning and continues through Saturday afternoon.

 

Asheville posted some results last Saturday at the Tar Heel Open. Head Coach Jesse Norman hopes that both teams can keep up the momentum this weekend.

 

“We took some positive steps last Saturday in Chapel Hill,” declared Norman. “I was pretty pleased at some of our results and the improvement we showed. We still have plenty of work to do and this will be a good test this weekend as there will be some excellent teams and competition.

 

Highlighting last Saturday’s results was Kelsie Rubino who finished in second place in the 800 meters with a time of 2:18.25. Rachel Carson came in fourth place at a time of 2:11.12.

 

On the men’s side, Kurt Hibert had top four finishes in two different field events. He had a third-place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 16.36 meters. Hibert placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 13.73 meters.

 

In the mile run on the women’s side, Erin Dalton finished in fourth place as she posted a time of 5:17.03. Adrian Etheridge came in ninth at 5:25.45

 

The Bulldogs went 3-4-5 in the 3000 meters. Sarah Heisner took third at 10:35, while Kasey Briggs finished fourth at 10:43 and Kylie Smith placed fifth at 10:55.

 

Asheville had some good results in field events. Argia Gibson came in fourth with a leap of 5.15 meters. Corey McClintock had a throw of 15.40 meters in the weight throw and that was good for a fifth-place finish.

 

The Bulldog men had some good results in distance action. Andy Thornburg finished eighth in the mile at 4:29.30. Jeremy Gower came in 14th at 4:36.71.

 

In the 3000 meters, Kevin Paradise took 15th with a time of 9:21.03.
